Online 12 String Guitar Tuner

Use this free online 12 string guitar tuner to tune up your guitar. This is for the standard eEaAdDgGBBEE 12 String Guitar tuning. A 12 string guitar is split up into 6 pairs of 2 strings. The thicker string of the pair is tuned to the same note and octave as a regular 6 string guitar. The thinner string, on the pair of strings 3-6, is tuned one octave higher than it's pair. On the first and second pairs, the notes are the same octave and each string in the pair should sound exactly the same to it's other string in the pair. This is eEaAdDgGBBEE tuning. The lowercase letters means that it is one octave higher then it's counterpart.

Alternate Tunings

If you need a different tuning then, check out our adjustable guitar tuner, and select the tuning you want and then tune the thicker strings it like you would a 6 string guitar and ignore the smaller string of the pair. Once you've done that, go back and tune the thinner strings 1 octave higher to whatever the notes is on the thicker string. Do this with all the strings except on the 1st and 2nd pair. Like we mentioned earlier, the first and second pair of strings are the same octave so just tune it to the exact note of it's other string in the pair.

OMG thank you so much for this!!! Life savers. I just bought my bro a 12 string for his BD and though I've played one for years I always have to have my local shop tune it for me! No MORE. I forwared your site to my little bro. This is great. Thanks again!

After 35 years I have picked up a 12 string and as you know ( if you don't use it you loose it ). Your site has saved me hours of frustration and got me back on the way to restarting what I gave up to get married. Thanks.

Tune it down 2 frets to limit stress on the neck.

And then when u want normal tuning use a capo on second or 3 fret and then its in normal tuning and helps with the action also

for the comment about tuning lower
That is true depending on the string guages u use i use a mix of medium and heavy cause it gives a beutiful tone but it would cause the bridge to start lifting if i kept it in normal tuning so tune down about a step and a half or put it into an opentuning like open C or C flat with a low B
