Online Ukulele Tuner

Use this free online ukulele tuner to tune your ukulele. This online tuner is special because you are able to change the notes to what you want, this is especially useful if you are using Alternate Ukulele Tunings. You will find presets for alternate tunings on the right side. The default tuning is the standard GCEA ukulele tuning. If you have a Banjo Ukulele, then the tunings are still the same, so this will work. If you want to use our old ukulele tuner go here. Below the tuner there are instructions on how to use it.

The numbering of the strings on a ukulele

How to Use this Tuner: To the right there is an image that explains the numbering of the strings on an ukulele. Click on the note for the string you want to tune and then turn the tuning pegs on your ukulele and match it up with the note that is being played. Adjust the volume on your computer until it is close to the volume of the sound your ukulele produces so one sound does not overwhelm the other. In this tuner there are two tones provided, a natural ukulele sound, and a computer generated frequency that is exactly the correct pitch, use whichever you find easier to use.

Excellent

It was confusing at first, because the strings were so far off, I couldn't tell whether to go up or down. Also kept forgetting which way turning each knob made it higher or lower, and which key was for which string. But after I got one, the rest came easier. Hang in there, I can sing good by ear, but have no musical training. If I can get it, you can too! I was able to tune it down a couple of octaves so a standard uke sounds like my voice singing "My dog has fleas". The uke standard tuning made me try to sing too high for my baritone/bass voice. I am using C# F# A# D#, second from the bottom of the scale. If you have a deeper voice than your uke does in standard G C E A, and you are straining your voice trying to match it, you should try it!

Gaby- one more thing. If you're totally unsure what the notes sound like when you're tuning try to find a video explaining what you're listening for. If you can't find one for uke try guitar. The notes, when they are close, will make a wavey sound while you're tuning. ( I'm terrible at trying to explain this...) Anyway once you know what to listen for it gets a lot easier. Good luck!

Gaby- search around the internet until you find one that works for you. Alternatively you can buy a tuner. The music stores will show you how to use them usually. The ones I know of usually have a little stick that you tune until it settles in the middle of a color pattern to whatever note you set it to. Also, if you have a brand new uke from the mail it will take a while to stretch the strings! I bought one on amazon and it took 4 days for the strings to mostly settle.
